I’ve known I had a story to tell for a long time. So, in the summer of 2019, I sat down and began typing. That was the beginning of Dodge — A Story about Coming of Age the Hard Way.

Some of Dodge is my story, some is storytelling. From experience, I know about survival, and I know about making mistakes and living with them. And fear and regret? We were best friends.

Perhaps sharing this story will touch someone’s life in a positive way. For me, the writing was cathartic and a way to relive past events. Over the years, life took over and I never fully processed my past to a point where I understood its impact on who I am today. In a way, the journey of trust that our main character, Dani, takes is very much like mine, except mine took decades longer.
